Sapien partnered with a $210 billion Fortune 50 technology company that employs over 83,000 individuals. The task at hand was to catalyze an enterprise-wide strategic transformation using our cutting-edge simulation platform. The company was seeking to transition from a hardware sales model to a recurring revenue software business model.
The shift to a software-centric business model was an ambitious endeavor that required the company's leadership to advocate effectively for change. The transformation was not merely a strategic pivot but a change that would alter the company's 'DNA'. As such, the main challenge was to initiate a deep discovery process to understand the unique ethos of the organization and mobilize the company-wide transformation effort.
To overcome this challenge, we designed a high-fidelity simulation that mirrored the company's unique culture and strategic landscape. The simulation included characters that embodied the strategic beliefs underpinning the transformation, thus allowing leaders to advocate for change in a relatable and engaging context.
To ensure a uniform experience across teams, we built a logic-based AI to automate feedback, reducing the demand on facilitators. This allowed for an unfiltered learning experience that could be repeated across each learning program.
A crucial aspect of our solution was the development of a custom simulation engine. We used company financial statements and industry-specific metrics to create an environment where the shift from hardware sales to a software-based recurring revenue model could play out in real-time.
To further solidify learning, we designed contextualized out-of-simulation activities. Here, participants could practice strategy translation based on developments within the simulation, providing tangible skills they could bring back to their teams.
Our strategic simulation not only activated the desired transformation but also cultivated a culture of change in the senior leadership group. The high-fidelity storyline and characters allowed leaders to effectively advocate for the transformation, leading to wider acceptance and excitement about the company's new direction.
The AI-powered feedback ensured consistency across the experience, while the custom simulation engine brought to life the financial implications of the transition from hardware to software sales. Through in-simulation and out-of-simulation activities, participants were able to translate strategy into action, applying their learnings to real-world challenges.
Our engagement resulted in an empowered workforce, armed with the knowledge and tools necessary to drive the strategic transformation. This project exemplified how a well-designed simulation can not only mobilize change but can also create a lasting impact, preparing a Fortune 50 technology company for a successful future in the software market.
